Pharmacy Benefit Consultant - Employer Groups
Tara is dedicated to making sure healthcare is affordable and leads to good patient outcomes and experiences. As a pharmacy benefit consultant in the employer group segment at PSG, Tara serves as the lead consultant for four employer groups and provides clinical support for two other groups.
Every day, Tara looks for ways for her clients:
On the consulting side, she works with employer groups and their pharmacy benefit manager on day-to-day operations, as well as making sure contract deliverables are being met, assisting with contract negotiations and ensuring audits are done in a timely manner. As Tara helps her clients, she always keeps the patient or member in mind, because they are the ones who are ultimately impacted.
When it comes to clinical support, she provides recommendations, such as, utilization management for a specific drug or drug category. Tara also runs clinical reports, suggesting next steps for both the client and the PBM based on the information she finds. She also helps tailor communications about clinical information for employer groups, simplifying the messages to eliminate jargon and focus on what they should act on.
Before joining PSG, Tara worked as the Clinical Pharmacy Director for Rhode Island Primary Care Physicians Corporation for six years. Her role included providing pharmacy services, such as, medication therapy management and disease management for primary care physicians. Within the organization, she also helped manage contracts, looking for opportunities to promote lowest net costs with best patient outcome for the physicians in the provider network.
In 2018, she worked with a system of care that came in number 1 for performance. “We were able to save the entire system quite a bit of money and have a positive impact on the patients we were working with, too,” Tara says.
She spent 12 years as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, working with provider groups and assisting the sales and marketing team with pharmacy trend, formulary and utilization management.
Tara has a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from the University of Rhode Island and earned a Doctor of Pharmacy from Shenandoah University. She is a licensed pharmacist in Rhode Island. She is a Certified Diabetes Outpatient Educator and a Certified Cardiovascular Outpatient Educator. She serves as a guest lecturer in the pharmacy program at the University of Rhode Island.
