Steve Altenburger has over 20 years of pharmacy benefit experience. He has more than 10 years of consulting experience within Government Programs and Managed Care Services, engaging with health plans and PBMs to plan and execute highly complex projects involving strategic and operational planning, operational gap analyses, process improvement, claim analysis, and more. Prior to joining PSG, he served as Sr. Director, Managed Care Services for Visante, where he cultivated trust-based advisory relationships with clients and delivered deep expertise in strategic and operational planning.
His experience also includes holding multiple clinical operation leadership roles within PBM/Health Plan environments. At CVS Caremark, he was the Director of Medicare Part D Clinical Operations Administration and led a team of 20+ across multiple locations. He developed and implemented policies and protocols for audits, quality, and compliance monitoring, and played a key role in the integration of Clinical Operations for CVS Caremark and Universal American. Steve also held multiple clinical operation leadership roles at Universal American and MemberHealth, including Director of Clinical Services, before being acquired by CVS Caremark. During this time, he managed coverage determination and appeals operations and led a staff of 50+ servicing over 1 million PDP and MAPD members.
Steve has earned the Apexus Advanced 340B Operations Certificate and has authored several articles published in managed care trade publications. He is a member of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University and is a registered pharmacist in the state of Ohio.
