Senior Vice President and Practice Lead - Plan Sponsors
With over 25 years in Pharmacy, there’s not much that Mike Medel hasn’t seen or done at this point in his career. As the Senior Vice President and Practice Lead, Plan Sponsors, he works with employers, health systems and labor unions across the country and helps them navigate some of the most complex issues in the industry. Though he’s quick to note that every day is different, Mike and his team work with plans to negotiate PBM agreements, analyze utilization management ideas, implement new PBM programs, and conduct audits or market checks. Leading a team made up of pharmacists and non-pharmacists, Mike uses all the resources at his disposal to transform a client’s issues into assets.
Mike earned a Master of Business Administration from Loyola University and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy, helping him understand the complex intersection of pharmacy and finance.

- Leading hospital pharmacies in Chicago’s Advocate system
- Growing a Medicaid pharmacy plan from 250,000 members to over 2 million in 5 years
- Consulting for large health systems, national employers, health plans, and public sector programs
